How to use a human-centered design framework to pilot more inclusive, equitable teams and work environments for all people

Several layers of cultural experiences shape our identities and the identities of the people around us. Some you may be privy to, most you will only perceive on the surface without taking a closer look. Sensing these layers of culture is part of radical inclusion, acceptance, and belonging that intersects across various experiences—additionally, these layers of culture call for us to not be just culturally competent but cross-culturally competent.

Learn the foundation of Cross-Cultural Competency
Build the various icebergs within the Community (ethnicity, race, privilege, power, lgbtq+, people with disabilities, generational, familial, etc.), including building out your organization’s cultural iceberg.

The Liberatory Design Framework is used in this workshop to encourage people to learn more about their own identities. We show you how to engage in a pattern of self and social-emotional awareness before entering any contest or practicing empathy.

Our desire to be thoughtful and inclusive leaders in projects can be compromised by project scopes, budgets, lack of support or decision-making power and our own hidden biases.

Drawing on justice principles and understanding how characteristics of white supremacy culture affect our projects helps organizations follow through on the promise of inclusion.  We offer a learning experience that helps organizations embody the values, tools, and practices of design justice in their everyday projects. On a practical level this means: tackling internal processes and operations, ie: project management, communications during projects, culture during projects, and team rituals.
